Dopesick

The book does an excellent job of using studies and research while also showing the more personal, and emotional side of opioid addiction. Macy’s writing style makes this heavy book read more like fiction, it was so engaging! I learned a lot about the crisis and how broken the system is, making it nearly impossible for people to beat their addiction.

It’s a heartbreaking and eye-opening book; I felt moved by people’s stories and also enraged on their behalf for how much the government and medical industry failed them! Dopesick gave me a whole new perspective on addiction, the opioid crisis, drug companies, and US law enforcement.

I felt like Macy not only does an amazing job educating readers on the history and politics of the crisis, but can also help readers empathize and better understand addiction. I also just found out Macy wrote a follow up last year and can’t wait to read it!
