The Mars Room
The writing style was choppy and confusing in the beginning, with a lot of back and forth commentary from the MC. There would be switching stories from the past that felt random but I got used to it at some point.
There were also switching POVs which I liked for the most part, getting to see the perspective of some of the other prisoners and people involved in the story. However there were chapters that were just text from the unabomber manifesto which I still don’t get how it’s tied in to the story and makes the flow feel disjointed.
I hated Gordon- he made me nauseous with his misogynistic BS-he had a typical, white man savior complex. I also hated Doc, so much-he's disgusting and not a love to hate type of character but someone you want to punch in the face. also what does he contribute to the story?! Just in general the male characters were bleh.
I did like the morally grey stories of each prisoner and details about their lives and the prison system. The novel was great at showing that nothing is as it seems, but be careful because it’s a REALLY dark story (see triggers in story and profile highlight).
