The Wonder
I fell in love with Donoghue’s writing earlier in the year when I read her novel, Room, and she stole my heart with yet another of her works. She has a great talent of painting the setting so vividly that I can picture myself there, the characters shoes.
The novel was slow to start and I wanted to smack the characters sometimes but slowly it grabbed and kept my attention. The novel was emotional and thought provoking, with some character development and grey areas of topics that put you into a “what would I do in this situation?” mindset. It reminded me of something in the news that happened recently here in the Netherlands where a young girl committed suicide by starving herself slowly. It really makes you think about how life is full of grey areas. Very Jodi picoult-y vibes with talking about a difficult subject matter and presenting in a way that you can understand both sides.
