The World's Wife

The poems are about the strong women behind famous men, and I expected to love that concept. But they fell short and I didn’t connect with most of the poems. It’s described as a “tongue in cheek, feminist collection” but it felt like it was trying waaay too hard to be feminist. Most poems didn’t uplift the women (in my view) but was just them trashing their husbands. I think it would’ve been more interesting if they at least did both, call out the husband for his mediocrity but also bring up the women’s accomplishments of her own. Plus the poems were “in your face” with fetishes and crude sexual descriptions, more than about the women themselves. I connected with/liked maybe 3 poems.

I've seen other reviews that rave about this collection, so maybe this just wasn't my cup of tea!
